Volunteer Opportunities

New Projects need new Volunteers

Museum on the Green & Welles Shipman Ward House

860-633-6890

1.  Education (Docents Needed):  The Education Committee is looking to train new volunteers to serve as House, Barn, Museum, or Cemetery docents.  If you are interested in any of these fun and rewarding volunteer opportunities or know of someone who would be, whether they are members or not, please contact Lin Scarduzio or Jim Bennett at 860-633-6890 or HSGlastonbury@sbcglobal.net

2.  The Antique Show Committee: The Committee is looking for new committee members and show volunteers.  Anyone who would like to join our committee or become a new volunteer please call Jim at the Museum 860-633-6890 or HSGlastonbury@sbcglobal.net

The Antique Festival has consistently been our most successful fundraiser because of all the great people who work hard on making the event a huge success. Volunteer positions include:  booth setup and takedown, field setup and takedown, publicity, brochure ads and text, signage, getting the dealers situated on the field and helping them when in need, ticket sales, booth sales, coffee and doughnut sales, finances and Museum monitoring.

3.  Researchers: The Society needs people to research the dates and original builders of homes in Glastonbury for those purchasing plaques for their historic homes. Training will be provided. Anyone interested please call Jim at 860-633-6890.

4. Weavers needed:  Mary Elva Erf the Society’s renowned weaver is seeking to train individuals to demonstrate weaving on the loom at the Welles Shipman Ward House. When the house is open we like to have a weaver available to demonstrate the loom and be able to discuss the process of making cloth with visitors. Anyone interested please call Jim at 860-633-6890.

5.  Library Assistants: Phyllis Reed our Librarian is seeking volunteers to catalog, copy and file existing files concerning the history of Glastonbury at the Museum on the Green. Any amount of time given would be greatly appreciated. Anyone interested please call Phyllis Mondays 10 AM – 4 PM at 860-633-6890.

6. Museum on the Green: Because so many people who want to visit the Museum on the Green either work or go to school during our regular hours Monday & Thursday 10 AM – 4 PM we will be opening the Museum the third Sunday of each month, from 1:00- 4:00 PM. We already have some excellent volunteers for these openings but we need more. Anyone interested in manning the Museum on the Sundays mentioned please call Jim at the Museum 860-633-6890.

7.  Curatorial & Library:  Both Curatorial and Library have data entry needs, cataloging our collections into a database known as "PastPerfect". We will teach you the system. It is easy, and this process enables students, family genealogists, researchers and the history loving public access our collections (objects, books, manuscripts, maps etc.).
